History project

Today we made necklaces from a celtic warrior design. originally this dragon design was made into a brooch to hold their heavy skin cloaks around their shoulders. But shrinky dinks make better necklaces!

Homeschool day 1!

We began our adventure into the world of homeschooling today! I got the wrinkles out of my denim jumper, oxi cleaned my keds, and got my hair up into a fantastic bun. Wilson was dressed and at the table ready to be wowed at 6:00 am.

YEAH RIGHT ;)

We actually began a little after 8 and we both had on t shirts and were barefoot. Wilson did greet me nose to nose with a huge grin at about 6:45 asking if today was his first day. I told him yes, but to go away we weren't starting yet! He quickly worked through everything on our to do list and we were done before 10! He had done a little work this summer, so in the coming weeks it will take a little longer. Throw in drive time to pick up and drop off the girls at preschool and I bet will be finishing right around lunch time...perfect!

We did history today (we'll be alternating between history & science) and learned about the roman empire and its eventual fall at the hand of invading barbarians. Wilson and miller loved looking at my scrapbook from my summer in rome and another book that I purchased while there. It has photographs of modern day rome and its ruins with clear pages that lay over those completing the picture with what the scene would have looked like originally.

When school was over we made sugar cookie columns and then pretended to be barbarians invading and tire them up (and had a yummy snack). Later Wilson came down from his room to show me the lego roman soldier he had made for the school table. Awesome!

Still more firsts...

Eliza grace got the first cotton candy at the table tonight at old venice. She had no idea what to think!!! "mom what's this?" I told her you eat it and she did not believe me! When she finally touch her tongue to it she was not impressed. Then I showed her how to pull a piece off and put it in her mouth. "mmmm, it's tasty!" She took a few more bites and decided it made a better a sword.
